Hello OVRDA members,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to any members I have not already met.
My name is Alan Wertz, and I am your current OVRDA President. I am married to Tara Guenther-Wertz and we have a 6 year old son, Wyatt, that usually keeps us hopping. Currently, we have a 22 ewe flock composed of fullblood and purebred Dorpers.
My wife was raised in the purebred sheep business, but sheep are newer to me, as I focused on horses while growing up and as an adult. Tara and I got our first percentage Dorper sheep together because I got a Border Collie and he needed a job and we thought they would help pay for the upkeep of our horses. About 6 years ago my father-in-law came to us with the opportunity to purchase 10 purebred Dorper ewes, and the rest is history. Now, we have approximately 70 head of sheep at home that we take to shows and sales across the nation and have very little time for the horses!
We love this breed and truly feel they are the future of the industry and thoroughly enjoy our time with them.
